❥cupcakes!
kitty don't jealous ok?
aristo slept over during the weekend..
and we made these..

err.. cupcakes gone wrong..✖
(blame on the oven which doesn't have the temperature button to adjust)

ta-daa! notice the tops that are tilted to the side? ✌
heh heh.. that's going to be our Signature.. =P

food for thought

over the weekend, tabby came over to have a cook-in.. yummy yums..

all of the above for 2 of us?!? tabby, do i look like i have a barrel for a stomach?!
lucky we had 2 additional guests, yo*chomp chomp*

check out the fussy chef's facial expression!
nonetheless, i'm glad to be the assistant chef..

we play masak-masak more ok?

Artwork Attempt #1

i saw all these paintings in hanoi
i feel like owning them all but i can't afford..
and i've always wanted to try to paint..
so here it is..
my first attempt.. :)by the time i used only 2 colours, i got tired, yo..work in progress..

Old Quarter

what the world need is more love & less paperwork..
(i'm still stuck in a holiday mood..)

the switches in the room we stayed in.. plug in the TV plug when wanna watch.. push the switches upwards to turn the lights on.. see the rotary speed control? for higher speed, spin it towards the left.. so.. i noticed some of the things here are of the opposite from ours..

kitty woke early!! she got ready earlier than me!! what?! she had her laundry done while i was still at a blur..!!

went walking around town..

paintings, paintings, paintings.. there are paintings everywhere..

chirpily chirpy girls..

we went to this place called Puku.. which seem more ex-pat-ish.. coz they have the american breakfast on the menu board rather than the authentic Vietnamese food.. this place Can be easily missed because the doorway is squished between shops (probably some art gallery or handycraft shop).. the shops we have in m'sia would have staircase in between shops, right? so when we first saw throngs of bikers going in, we were surprised.. how could a narrow staircase house so many bikes?? when kitty brought us there.. only then we saw the narrow alley that leads into a courtyard.. turn left to climb up a concrete stairs.. this shop looks 'secretive'.. haha..

1st floor.. brightly painted walls.. stools perched on the balcony.. and er, i like the doors..

couches & armchairs..

and on the 2nd floor.. THIS, is what i see from where i was seated.. right in front of me.. a tv that my grandparents once had!! nostalgic!! this space is open on 3 sides.. so, it's not shy from rays of sun.. great place to hang out.. it has wifi too..

mix of furniture.. blablabla.. besides that, i noticed a stool hung upside down from the ceiling.. it is used to hold speakers..

squeak, growl, burp

there's something about the doors in Hanoi.. y do i keep stopping to have a few seconds of look at them?

notice their flags? the red ones jutting out from the buildings? it was also their independece day.. only 2 days after ours..

getting to know hanoi..

a classic Vietnam scene..
i just had to take a picture of this lady lah.. something told me to..

a wooden chair lies on the threshold of an entrance.. this house is baby-proof,yo..

a pomelo seller..

we went on to visit some of the people whom kitty has met.. apparently they run a backpackers' place.. noticed the many clocks.. they tell the time of some different countries.. and cheeky labels - climax, wanks river etc.. i thought it was funny..

they decorated the walls with a collage of pictures.. noticed kitty's once chubby face put up amongst other pictures..

kitty-chubby-face..

bunk beds at the backpackers' place..

had a tour around..

bath tub as furniture! to store ice and beer.. located at the roof top of the backpackers' place..

a glimpse into a bygone era.. i had quite an 'architectural orgasm' in the old quarter.. buildings that would show that they were once a colony of France.. this is 1 of the buildings.. the St Joseph’s Cathedral - opened in 1886, during the earliest days of colonial rule.. it still holds mass twice daily and is probably the most famous church in hanoi..

paintings.. paintings.. paintings..

artsy-fartsy.. suddenly i wish for my country to be once a colony of France..

purr, meow,chirp, growl

u know, sometimes u get to know a person more by living or traveling with them? yeah? i found out that my friends can get Really serious when it comes to buying coffee beans..

THIS, is right smack in the middle of the market.. alongside other stalls that sell dry goods..?!

there.. see the alley thingy that's sandwiched in between shops?? HAH! another 'secretive' alley! now i know..!!

this is us alfresco-style
(tabby, kitty, oddie)
could the locals be influenced into having a french-style dining? u know, like those we often see in movies.. people hanging out at cafes.. sit at tables outdoors.. have coffee and baguettes underneath big umbrellas.. coz i notice there are many many many stalls in hanoi that cater for patrons to sit (or rather, squat) on the uneven sidewalks..

hey, damn, why is this picture not rotated? well, anyway, tilt your heads to the left.. take note of the red light.. and that nobody cared.. the bikers just went past that.. i have absolutely no idea what the traffic lights are for.. i was on a cyclo (see-klo) when i took this picture.. even my 'driver' cycled past.. okay.. probably poosy would be saying "don't u feel right at home, bee??" i have to say, you have been my very patient passenger.. hehe.. =) anyway, we bargained for the cyclo ride - it costs 25,000D for a 7 minutes or so ride..

that's kitty on the other cyclo..

we walked around the Hoan Kiem lake.. the lake of the restored sword lake is used to be part of the red river.. legend says that the lake is related to a sword.. this King Le Thai To was on a boat on the lake.. saw a giant turtle coming towards him.. that turtle took his sword that has secured victory against the Minh aggressors 1 woh.. *shrugs*.. anyway.. i was delighted to be able to sit around on the benches that circled around.. surprisingly, the one bench that we picked was kitty's favourite - the one which she used to sitaround to read whenever she had time last time..

it was their independece day on the 2nd of september.. there were shows - dancing, singing & juggling.. the locals commemorate somewhere nearby the lake.. we stopped by to see what the hype was about.. i could hear tunes of 'livin la vida loca' by ricky martin playing out loud.. looked around.. and saw these people up on a tree!

what's the hype all about yo?

oh man.. this is the time when we were going to bid farewell.. such a short trip..

brisked through pavements.. wishing we had more time..

kitty insisted that we try the bun cha in the nick of time.. served in 3 different bowls:-

1. rice noodles - slightly fatter than the mihun we get here. it's kinda a little stuck together; reminds me of our puttumayam here..

2. greens - got a few types of greens.. mint? coriander? cucumber? and some others lah..

3. broth - it's fish sauce, with grilled meat (beef/ chicken) dipped inside..

eat the meat together with the thin thin slice of cucumber is damn best.. me being the usual jakun self.. didnt know how to eat.. i just scoop some of the broth to sprinkle on the noodles.. which was Wrong.. tabby was making fun of me.. blek.. so anyway, it was supposed to be:- pick up a few strands of noodles, and a few of the green leaves, dip it in the broth & on the way back out, gracefully pick up a slice of the grilled pork and bring it all to your mouth.. yummy yums.. it cost 20,000D for a bun cha..

we had to leave while chewing our last bites of the bun cha.. rushing off to the guesthouse.. THE TIME HAS COME.. called a taxi.. bid farewell to our host.. and our tradition - the crying session started.. HARHARHAR.. tabby the crybabyyyy.. boo-hoo.. *weep weep* =P

from now on, whenever i see small stools for sale at mini markets, i'd stare at it, tilt my head slightly and =/.. awwww.. i will look at it differently now..
