Wu Gong Ci (Hall of 5 Lords)
few things that i saw after i entered.. there were 5 chinese figures which were commemorated at this place.. according to the tour guide, hainan island was a place where criminals were placed at.. it was like a jail.. apparently these particular 5 men who were depotted here changed for the better and started building this place up, teaching other people basic things..
Mr Su Dongpo was dismissed here & went to Canghuajun of Danzhou (now it's called Zhonghe Town od Danzhou City) stayed over night here "digging 2 springs" which was praised by local people.. that's because they didn't know how to use a well and they've been carrying pails of water from a faraway river.. Mr Su passed through this place (Jingzhuo Pavillion) at the invitation of Magistrate Lu and wrote a poem.. after this, this Spring & Pavillion became a famous spot of the county..
the poem written by Su :-
there are Fusu Spring & Xixin Spring at the sides of Jiongzhui Pavillion,
mixing the water drawn from the 2 springs in a bottle,
chilly & dense, an integral whole,
which has been made for tea & cooking,
the people have been profusely praising in one voice,
from Yangtse River to the Ocean, boundless & unselfish,
is it because Mr Su am a man of integrity,
the fountainhead converged in the Ocean can present such generous gifts,
please go on a tour of this place everybody,
for drinking the spring water drilled by me & reading & appreciating my poem.
here's a statue of Mr Su Dongpo
the man in red is Mr Sudongpo.. there's this pavillion with 3 main walls of mural painting depicting Mr Su's good deeds.. all of which show Mr Su teaching the locals how to do this & that..
there's this university (Ciung Tai Shu Yen) that we visited.. according to the tour guide, there's a love story between a man (Cui Lian) and his servant (Li Wen Xian) here.. something about them flying a kite and it ended up being in 1 of the rooms of the university.. at that point of time (and many other points of time, actually) , i wish i could understand the Mandarin dialect.. because out of all the stories that the guide told, i could only understand a mere half..
i went roaming around the halls and saw paintings.. there's this one with a gleeful man..
Bird Park
"crew.. crew.. crew.."
(in case u're wondering.. it's the noise that the pigeons make)
ostrich..
the ostrich was a bit shy..
bird house! there were many other bird houses there! they all look very cute..
visited the permanent venue for the prestigious BOAO forum for Asia (BFA)
apparently, Hainan used to be a part of Vietnam?..
i noticed that the bamboo hats that are widely used here, like in Vietnam..
went to the Nan Wan Hoa Dao (Monkey Island) by boat & bus rides.. this is a view from the boat.. the sky created such a gloomy feel..
a statue found there.. it's of a monkey holding a human skull..
performances by monkeys & some other animals.. there's this 1 of a goat walking on a plank of wood! with a monkey doing stunts on it!
all four legs on a tiny thing!
and they made a U-ey to return to where they started! whoa!there's this "fashion" thing i noticed.. many of the locals (and tourists) wear matched pajamas and walk around town.. it was their Independence holiday and they get ONE WEEK off! therefore most of the places we visited are filled with the locals.. (ONE WEEK OFF!!) i suggested to Dad that we should get the pajamas and wear them too.. Dad thought it's a ridiculous idea.. there's no way that he's going to wear it, even at home, he said.. (ONE WEEK OFF?!?) i'm still shocked to find out that they have a week off of holidaysssss!
a baby monkey..
monkey pose..
the monkeys getting a tan by the pool..
and they swim, too!
monkey family.. this place is amazing.. they let all monkeys on loose.. they get to move about freely and we are allowed to touch and feed them too..
there's this 1 path where all the monkeys raise the flags when we, the guests of honour, walk pass..
the King of the monkeys.. can u see it? it's sitting on a tree branch.. this is where the King and its family "stay".. all other monkeys respect the King.. when it has its meals, no one can take from it.. and the family has an area all to themselves where there are rocks and little waterfall to sunbathe.. it's not a properly "gated" area because it's only surrounded by a low fence made from tree branches.. i guess other monkeys don't go in there as it is the King's territory..
we got in to a cable car on the way back..
it was my best ride in hainan so far.. coz the others are of bumpy rides in a lousy bus that has a bad roof.. it was raining so heavily that the roof leaks.. haha.. and to accompany that with a crazy driver.. i was often shocked the Toot out of my life while passing through towns..
a local fruit-seller..
a local kid..that's my Dad trying to hit a cylindrical metal thing..
u know all these holiday trips that we sign in with? usually a package includes visiting factories like the pearl factory, the tea leaves, the coffee bean, the fish oil, the silk, the gems etc.. (which i loathe going to).. there's this 1 local product which amazed me! the Knives! they are made from the same material that are used on Bullets! the butcher's knife is really amazing.. the ones that Mom use back at home cannot fight! the demonstrator held up a conventional butcher's knife in the middle and the blade weighs heavier than the handle.. BUT, the one introduced here is of the contrary.. when asked to have a volunteer from the crowd, who else but Dad, raised his hand up, like Hermione.. i was thrilled to find out about other products with the same material used as blades..
went shopping at Pedestrian Street (Jie Fang)..
there's this Hainan's 4 Famous Dishes..
1. Wenchang Chicken
2. Jiaji Duck
3. Hele Crab
4. Dongshan Goat
all of which are mediocre, to me.. i do not know why they call them their Famous Dishes..
went for a show at the Beauty Crown Theatre.. there were many beauties from many countries who have performed here.. the whole dance gala took about 1.5 hours.. anyway, this venue has been exclusively designed and constructed for the Miss World Beauty Contests - the Finals of the 53rd, 54th, 55th & 57th Contests.. apparently the shows are staged daily!!
a brave stunt by a lady.. that's about 6 chairs stacked on top of one another!
take a look at the guy on the right wheel.. he was putting on a black cloth thing to blindfold himself while doing the stunt..
Dad trying to walk on the swings to get across the pond.. pretty scary stunt.. my heart fell as hard as the one during the blindfold stunt (from the previous show i mentioned)..
silk factory.. blablabla.. *yawn*..
by now, u all should be able to recognize my dad already..
Lu Hui Tou Park.. the direct translation would be.. "the deer makes a U-ey" (that's what i first assumed)
this park is also known as the love hill in sanya.. there's a moving love folklore about the park. long time ago, a young ethnic Li hunter ran after a deer from the mount wuzhi to the shore of south china sea. the deer found no way to go except the sea under a cliff. the hunter bent his bow & got ready to shoot. suddenly, a flame shone & mist rose to the sky, the deer turned its back & transformed into a beautiful girl. soon, the hunter and the "fairy" girl fell in love & settled down here. from then on, the romantic hill is called Lu Hui Tou (deer turning its head) & became a sacred place for young people to express their LURVE.
the huge sculpture on the top of the hill represents the moving scene of the romantic love story.. and Sanya is also called "deer city"..
notice the same pajama fashion? *whispers* they're everywhere..
that's a Luck & Peace tree.. many Li ethnic people believe that banyan tree is a tree of holiness.. GIANT leaves would be the God of rain & small leaves would be the God of peace..
"welcome u free to come to the deer park to watch"
there was much hoo-ha regarding both the famous dishes and the beach.. i have no idea why, really.. maybe because i come from malaysia, where both of these can be found.. i thought the beach was also kind of mediocre..
??
visited the Li village.. saw this local lady doing some handycraft..
Li village..
a local kid..
a shop at the Li village.. everything is quite affordable.. managed to get a cute bag at RM5.. the matching kids' clothes cost about RM5 too!!
the ethnic pole dance at the village..
this should be all.. hope ya all enjoyed travelling through my eyes..
