a direct cut n' paste...hehe

We stayed at Kanchanaburi for only two nights before heading up North to Laos. We took a mini van up to Ayutthaya to hang there for a couple of hours before taking another overnight train up to Nong Khai (Border of Laos).

Ayutthaya, compared to Kanchanaburi is a lot more congested even though its a small town. The minute we arrived there, it felt like a mini Bangkok with lines of tuk-tuks, buses, motorbikes and cars. I suppose with the many Wats around the town, it kinda made it a heavily dense tourist stop.

On board the train, we befriended a solo traveler from Germany. Sebastian was to travel in Laos for approximately five weeks. We made our way together across the border and into Vientianne. Along the way we met a couple more travelers here and there. Personally I think these are one of the highlights of backpacking - Meeting other travelers. Even though it could possibly get quite tiring when you've told many about your current routes and destinations. Its like being a broken record, but then those are the conversation starters.

So, we arrived in Vientianne town and decided to grab some lunch. For those of you who don't know, Laos is a very heavily French influenced town. Lunch for us was pork ham sandwich served to us by an elderly Laotion who spoke great English. We sat down and had a long chat with the guy, talked about Thailand, Laos and how his French was even better than his English. Then one of the travelers we met walked by joined us for lunch. Oh and he is French. Next thing you know the Laotion and the French were conversing in French about Laos history. Not wanting to be left out, whenever they finished a sentence I would immediately respond "Oui, oui" Our lunch in the end took us about two hours or so before we decided to leave and look for a transport to our next destination, Vang Vien.
