UN + Times Sq

ham & cheese baguette with coffee at a nearby park.. as kitty mentioned earlier, i notice that there are many shoots going on.. shoots as in advertisement or whatever movie they're making.. as we were having our breakfast in the park, there was a shoot going on too.. some guy wearing full adidas attire jogging..
right after that, we went to the UN building.. the UN is an organization located on an 18-acre site on the East side of Manhattan. it's an international zone belonging to all Member States.(192 of them) kitty told me that as we stepped into the UN grounds past their gates, we are actually walking Out from New York! heehee.. so, we practically Left NY for a few hours. we joined the guided walking tour in the building too..! see the flags behind me? right behind the flags, it's considered 'international zone'

we entered the compounds.. took some pictures.. i thought the pistol looked cool.. anyway, just a bit of UN knowledge.. the aims of having UN.. it's of course to keep peace throughout the world, develop friendly relations between nations, work together to help ppl live better lives, eliminate poverty, disease & illiteracy, stop environmental destruction, encourage respect for each other's rights & freedom.. and to be a centre for helping nations achieve these aims..

The Headquarters consist of four main buildings: the General Assembly building, the Conference Building, the 39-floor Secretariat building, and the Dag Hammarskjold LibraryThe complex was designed by an international team of 11 architects, led by an american architect. there was only 1 of them though, whom i've heard of.. he's Le Corbusier (from France)

again, kids from all over the world raise important issues by addressing them through their art work.. pretty impressive.. straight forward.. these kids are of 6 to 14 year old..

kitty was amused by the fact that the penguins are inside the fridge in this piece of art..

a man lifting a drape (or rather a fake impression) of blue skies.. only to find out the real ugliness that's happening.. a very polluted city..

Guided tours of the United Nations operate daily from the General Assembly Public Lobby. An international staff explains the work of the United Nations and its related organizations, while taking visitors to some of the main Council Chambers and the General Assembly Hall. The tour also features art and other objects of interest donated by Member States. this one above is a gift from peope's republic of China.. it's a carving thing of chengdu-kunming railway..

this is a full height wall mosaic of all types of people from different races.. each mosaic is about 1cm by 1cm u know?? wow.. and there's this thing written (or rather, arranged in mosaics, in gold) - Do unto others as u would have them do unto you.. this piece is called "the golden rule". this gift is presented to the UN by Mrs Nancy Reagan..

this is a painting done by someone of the Dominican Republic.. there are 3 phases in this drawing or something like that.. something about human beings going through sufferings, like as if there's no system like that.. then 2nd part was bringing everyone together to bekerjasama kinda thing.. then in the end gaining some kinda peace or something..

this is the security council chamber.. where the council works to maintain international peace & security through negotiations.. mediation, UN peace keeping operations or enforcement measures.. i think the Burma case could be one of the things in the list of discussion here..??

some display of those buried landmines found.. the guide told us that there are still many 'active' landmines around.. and are being detected using some metal detectors.. then somehow dunno how they are dug out..

displays of chidren with arms..

EVERYONE HAS THE RIGHT TO REST & LEISURE!! =) INCLUDING LIMITATION OF WORKING HOURS, YO! and PERIODIC HOLIDAYS, yo! =)

this is a replica of the royal thai barge "suphannahong" - also a gift to the UN

notice the flowing thing on the ground? it connects all around the globe - the paint.. past through UN countries la..

kitty, in hopes of ending poverty in the world..

a continuition of art work that goes around the globe (UN countries).. i'm serious.. see those blue thingies??

this is the General Assembly Hall where all UN member states, large & small, rich & poor have a voice in tackling the challenges facing our planets. i guess probably the most hit topic now is Global Warming and Saving Water.. that's because these are the main things that are displayed in the lobby area..

this thing above is some kinda earphone that allows the audience to listen to - with a Language preference.. there are rooms above the Assembly hall (with big clear glass panel; like the ones the interns of Grey's Anatomy sit around above in the operation room) for the interpreters to translate right away..
after the visit to the UN, we went to times square area there for a broadway musical.. we picked Les Miserables..

kitty & garf - night time at Times Square..

see the ernst & young building?

the les miserables musical was really good. touching. at the end, as usual, what's new, i teared up. it was so beautifully done - the singing, the expressions.. the love of a father.. of a dying mother.. the love between a boy and a girl.. wuah.. it's all about love, yo.. =~)

this wrapped up my day.. i felt so overly inspired man.. the trip to UN - learning about the hardships.. and with kitty beside me explaining to me about most things.. i can't wait to learn more.. i feel like i need to do something to the world.. like, really meaningful things..

oooh.. i also manage to note down some writings.. enjoy! :-

this is my wish for u:
comfort on difficult days
smiles when sadness intrudes
rainbows to follow the clouds
laughter to kiss your lips
sunsets to warm your heart
hugs when spirits sag
beauty for your eyes to see
friendships to brighter your being
faith so that u can believe
confidence for when u doubt
patience to accept the truth
courage to know yourself
love to complete your life..
