After approximately a week after we arrived back home in KL, we left for Manila, Philippines. Julian was commissioned to go there to shoot a local band for their album cover and I tagged along.

sister was working on the same
flight when we flew out to Clark, Manila.

an older part of Manila. The wall in the
background used to be a prison many years
ago. As you can guess, it is abandoned.
Oh and before I move on with more photos,
let me introduce the band to you. They are
called Archipelago, playing mostly English
songs, their debut album also will feature
four Tagalog songs. Julian and I have
really taken a liking to their music, partially
also because we saw them play live twice
already. A few of their songs are really good.

In the end it was decided that this
white wall was the clear winner as compared
to the previous wall.

walked around Intramuros.

just before our flight back to KL. This
airport used to be the army base.

Oops.

Starbucks. :)
A quick summary on my Manila trip.
I think because most of the time spent was recce-ing and shooting, Manila didn't impress me much. Reminded me of a more dense and compact Bangkok. Not to mention being stuck in traffic at least two hours going just one way to somewhere. The traffic was a total turn off, not to mention the ever so vibrant honks coming from every single vehicle around. The next time I go back that direction, I need to check out the malls. I've been told that they are massive and all over the place.
I do enjoy their local fastfood chain though, Jollibee. In fact, Filipinos prefer Jollibee to McDonald's and it has been proven too. Wherever there is both Jollibee and Mckers in the same street, McDonald's usually ends up closing down. Haha. How cool is that?
Oh, while we were there, we stayed at the band's singer's house. Yan lives with his girlfriend and daughter, Nina. They also have a yaya, who is a live in domestic help. Her little Andy lives with them too. Here's a few photos of us with the kids.
This is Julian with little Andy, who is 3 years old.
She doesn't speak any English, but she understands
what we say most of the time. She's a little tyke. Cute
as hell cos she speaks to us in a rascally voice in
a Filipino dialect. Argh, I miss her.
This is Nina, who is turning 9 in a few weeks time. She
is a product of American children's programs. Haha.
A little drama queen, but a smart one at that.
